2 Chainz solo album debuts at No. 1: Rapper's effort is second Def Jam title to hit top in three weeks

2 Chainz solo album debuts at No. 1: Rapper's effort is second Def Jam title to hit top in three weeks

Rapper 2 Chainz's solo career saw some immediate liftoff this week as his debut album "Based on a T.R.U. Story" shot to No. 1 on the U.S. album chart.

The former member of the Atlanta hip-hop twosome Playaz Circle, who originally worked under the stage name Tity Boi, shifted 147,000 copies of his Def Jam solo bow, according to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ended Aug. 19.

The set is the second Def Jam rap title to reach No. 1 in the last three weeks: Rick Ross' "God Forgives, I Don't," which topped the chart with a 218,000-unit entry two weeks ago, dropped one rung to No. 3 this week with a 43,000-unit tally (off 27%).

Last week's No. 1 debut, the Capitol-distributed hits compilation "Now 43," lost 32% and dropped to No. 2 with a 75,000-copy frame.

Detroit hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse matched their highest chart post ever with "The Mighty Death Pop" (Psychopathic), which racked up first-week sales of 41,000. Title duplicated the chart peaks of "Bang! Pow! Boom!" (2009) and "The Amazing Jeckel Brothers" (1999).

Only last week, ICP announced that it would legally dispute the FBI's classification of its fans, known as "Juggalos," as "a loosely organized hybrid gang" in a 2011 gang threat assessment report.

Maroon 5's "Overexposed" (Octone/A&M) received an Amazon MP3 bounce, jumping six poles to No. 11 and gaining 59% with 36,000 units sold after the online retailer offered the album as a one-day $3.99 special.
Top 10 holdovers were Justin Bieber's "Believe" (No. 6, 35,000 sold, up 17%), One Direction's "Up All Night" (No. 7, 29,000, up 1%), Adele's "21" (No. 8, 26,000, up 1%) and the Zac Brown Band's "Uncaged" (No. 9, 25,000, off 20%).

Florida pop-punk unit Yellowcard slipped into the top 10 at No. 10 with "Southern Air," which moved a mild 23,000. It's the act's highest chart placement since "Lights and Sounds" climbed to No. 5 in 2006.
A trey could trump a deuce on next week's chart, as rap-R&B star Trey Songz's new "Chapter 5" is the top candidate to displace 2 Chainz at No 1 next week.

On the singles side, in a probable harbinger of better sales days to come, Taylor Swift's new single "We Are Never Getting Back Together" moved 623,000 digital copies last week, setting a new one-week digital record for a female performer. The country-pop singer's highly anticipated album "Red" lands Oct. 22.

Pippa Middleton risks jail term for gun stunt in Paris

Kate's sister was with driver who brandished handgun at a paparazzo

Pippa Middleton is front page news in Britain again after a Paris misadventure that may land her in trouble with the French police. Middleton was in the front seat of an Audi convertible when the unidentified driver waived a handgun at a photographer.

Middleton has been a tabloid favourite ever since her sister Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, had her royal wedding to Prince William last April. But she usually makes the page for her style and pert posterior — not gun-slinging.

The news of this scandal has lead many U.K. tabloids to chastise the 27-year-old for her wild behaviour. The Daily Mail has reported that Middleton was frolicking at a Parisian costume party the night before, and the Sun posted a picture of Middleton laughing when the driver pointed the gun at the camera.

Twitter is filled with tweets decrying the royal in-law’s flippant reaction to a gun being brandished in someone’s face.

The public pistol-slinging could land Middleton in hot water with the Paris police: “If the evidence points to her involvement, she will be prosecuted. Anybody involved in the illegal use of a handgun in public is liable to arrest and interrogation.” a source told the Sun.

Two other men were in the car along with her and the driver, including French fashion entrepreneur, Arthur Soultrait, the Daily Mail reported.

Middleton and her comrades may be facing up to seven years of jail time for the incident if the gun is real, two years if it was a fake, the same source told the Sun.

"Believe" it: Bieber, Swift team up for new song

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber has teamed with country sensation Taylor Swift on a new song for his upcoming third album, though details were scant as the "Boyfriend" singer keeps fans guessing.

Bieber told British radio station Capital FM in a recent interview that Swift was one of several people he had worked with on Believe.

"I even wrote a song with Taylor Swift, so the whole album ranges differently," Bieber said.

"With my music it doesn't only stay in a box. Everything is so different and that's why I'm so happy with this album," he added.

Bieber, 18, did not give the title of the song he wrote with Swift, 22, nor did he say if the pair would sing it together.

The pop singer also has said he worked with R&B star Usher, rappers Kanye West and Drake, and producer Timbaland on the new album which is expected to be released later this summer.
